POULIOT PLAYS HIMSELF OUT OF PICTURE

Five o’clock came and went with three of PIerre Gauthier’s restricted free agents receiving qualifying offers, while three others did not.
The Canadiens’ General Manager made qualifying offers to Josh Gorges, Ryan White and Yannick Weber.
No surprise, really.  Gorges has emerged as a leader on and off the ice and could one day become Captain of this team.
After failing to make the grade following an impressive training camp, White worked hard in Hamilton and was called up by the Canadiens in mid-season. He quickly established himself as a gritty, gutsy performer and earned a right to full-time minutes with this club.
I can appreciate the vote of confidence that Weber has received. But he needs to show me more in the way of defensive responsibility at the big-league level.  If nothing else, he seemed to take a step sideways (if not backwards) in that department as he began to log more minutes with the big team this past season.  And, please.  No more experiments as a part-time defenceman/fourth liner.
