Centre Alex Galchenyuk admits draft day 2012 has been on his mind in recent days.

Galchenyuk is expected to emerge as a high, first-round pick at the June 22nd NHL Entry Draft in Pittsburgh, despite a torn ACL that required surgery and wiped out most of his Ontario Hockey League season as a member of the Sarnia Sting.

Galchenyuk says he has spoken to several NHL teams in recent months, including the Canadiens, who will draft third. “I spoke to the (Canadiens) head scout,” Galchenyuk said from Sarnia.  It was a good meeting.”

Galchenyuk has never spent any time in Montreal.  He says he’d love to come here, but acknowledges where he lands is out of his hands. “Those things I can’t really control. I did what I had to do — I came back. It’s not on me any more.”

In the meantime, Galchenyuk says the knee “is great.”  “When I came back, it was awesome,” he said. “I was waiting for so long.”

Listen to this candid conversation with engaging and talented Alex Galchenyuk, as he talks about his relationship with his teammate, and another top prospect, Nail Yakupov.
