Centre Alex Galchenyuk’s bags are packed as he heads to Toronto for the start of the NHL Combine tomorrow — a precursor to the NHL Entry Draft that will be held June 22nd in Pittsburgh.

Galchenyuk has wrapped up a strong junior career with the Sarnia Sting. Despite coming off knee surgery that wiped out most of this season, Galchenyuk is pegged to go in the top 5 in many draft lists.  He admits that as June 22nd approaches, he’s hearing, reading, and seeing more about draft day.

Galchenyuk admits he’s “into it,” but, adds, “I don’t really pay attention to it. It doesn’t matter right now. What matters is how you perform at the next level.  For me, I’m just enjoying this experience.”

Another junior expected to go top five, and as high as number one in the draft, is Galchenyuk’s Sarnia teammate Nail Yakupov.  Galchenyuk says the two haven’t been comparing heading into Draft Day.  “I’ll see him at the combine and we’ll obviously talk there.”

Galchenyuk joined me in The Locker Room tonight to look ahead to next week’s NHL Combine and next month’s Entry Draft.
